(Photo: Social Innovation Team) The workshop “Ageing Happily, Gracefully and Peacefully – Translating Research into Silver Community Impact” brought together nearly 30 participants, including CUHK members and 12 elderly guests recruited by Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) and Hayley Hand Care, to explore how research can be transformed into meaningful solutions for ageing-related challenges.
The event featured two distinguished speakers. Mr Timothy Ma, an expert in the social innovation sector, delivered the keynote address outlining the current landscape and challenges of Hong Kong’s ageing population, highlighting opportunities for innovative solutions. Prof Suzanne Lo from The Nethersole School of Nursing shared her experience in founding Hayley Hand Care, a social enterprise funded by S-KPF, demonstrating how research outcomes can be translated into practical services to support stroke patients with hand spasticity and address broader ageing issues.
An interactive session followed, moderated by Timothy, where CUHK participants engaged directly with the elderly attendees to understand their real-life needs and brainstorm ways to turn academic research into impactful community projects. The discussion was lively and inspiring, with active participation from all.
The recording of Timothy and Prof Lo’s presentations is now available here. Interested parties are welcome to revisit their insightful sharing on social innovation and ageing-related challenges.
