The recent webinar session featured La Violet Education and welcomed plenty of academia and researcher to hear from Ms Hazel Yun, Executive Director of La Violet. Hazel shared La Violet’s mission to empower youth through authentic learning, creative education, and social connection, helping students discover their passions and make positive contributions to society.

Hazel highlighted the challenges of Hong Kong’s exam-driven education system and introduced La Violet’s application of the Five Cs Model of Positive Youth Development — Compassion, Confidence, Character, Competence, and Connection — across its programmes. These initiatives promote self-understanding, social engagement, and life and career planning beyond academic achievement.

She illustrated this with examples such as collaborations with LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®, which bring hands-on and minds-on learning to classrooms, and poverty awareness projects combining exhibition curation, art creation, and social missions to foster empathy and social responsibility. Hazel also shared La Violet’s technology and sustainability programmes, which use design thinking and authentic learning experiences to prepare students for future challenges through STEM-focused, cross-school projects in partnership with EMSD.

The session concluded with La Violet’s vision for curriculum co-creation and the Young Educator Incubation Programme, as well as the evolving role of AI in education to support value-based learning. Participants left with insights into how education can unlock purpose and hope, and how collaboration can drive meaningful social impact.
