The recent session of the Funder Insights Webinar Series, featuring The D. H. Chen Foundation, welcomed over 50 participants who joined to hear from Ms Tammy Liu, Assistant Programme Director of the Foundation. Tammy shared the Foundation’s mission, funding philosophy, and collaborative strategies for driving meaningful and sustainable social impact
Tammy highlighted how the Foundation supports its funded partners in applying participatory approaches to programme development and resource planning. These approaches empower stakeholders to co-design solutions that are more responsive and effective. She illustrated this with the Foundation’s collaboration with CUHK CW Chu College, where a youth-led initiative was implemented to promote mental wellbeing and mindfulness among students, staff, and the broader community. This example demonstrated how participatory design can lead to fit-for-purpose solutions that resonate deeply with those they serve.
Tammy also emphasised the Foundation’s commitment to co-learning and co-creation with changemakers. Rather than a top-down funding model, the Foundation fosters long-term partnerships built on mutual trust, shared learning, and adaptive innovation. This approach not only strengthens programme outcomes but also builds capacity within communities and organisations.
Participants left the session with valuable insights into how to align their impact projects with the Foundation’s values, and how to build meaningful partnerships that go beyond funding — toward shared missions of social transformation and community wellbeing.
