In the afternoon of 28 October, our team continued our Social Enterprise World Forum 2025 (SEWF25) Fringe Day with hosting the session PLANET in Practice: Sustainability Through CUHK Research, Humanities, and Green Innovation — a dynamic cross-border exchange connecting stakeholders from Hong Kong and Taiwan across academia, social enterprises, public organisations, and non-profits.

This session sparked meaningful dialogue on translating knowledge into actionable sustainability solutions.

CUHK academics showcased pioneering work at the intersection of science, culture, and community:

  • Prof Lam Hon Ming (School of Life Sciences / Soyvestors): presented climate-smart soybeans for resilient agriculture and education
  • Prof Wu Ka Ming (Department of Cultural and Religious Studies) explored environmental communication through migrant domestic helpers’ plastic-free initiatives
  • Dr Marianne Lee (School of Life Sciences) highlighted green enzyme catalysts scaling cleaner industrial processes.

Taiwan social innovators added powerful perspectives:

  • Mr Jin-Peng Tsai (FNG Next Generation Design) shared circular technology for PET bottle recycling
  • Mr Kuang-Ching Chen (Soybean Farm): demonstrated localised sustainable food systems using Taiwan’s domestic soybeans.

Together, the speakers illustrated how biotechnology, cultural studies, and eco-social entrepreneurship converge to drive planetary impact — perfectly aligned with SEWF25’s PLANET theme.

The panel discussion concluded with a lively Q&A session, where audience members actively engaged with the speakers — raising thoughtful questions, sharing reflections, and contributing to a rich exchange of ideas on sustainability and innovation.

Special thanks to KPMG Taiwan for co-hosting, and to Ms Ning Lee for expertly moderating the panel.

The speakers' presentation decks are now available for intetsted parties to revisit their sharing. Please find the links at the end of this webpage.

Let’s keep innovating for a greener, more sustainable future! 🌍💡
